United Way Staff, Board of Directors, and Volunteers Say, "Thank you for your Dough-nation."
March 3, 2021 – Utica NY –
United Way of the Mohawk Valley is celebrating its 12th Annual Day of Thanks today! Each year, on this day, United Way MV visits select local business partners bringing their employees some treats, recognition plaques, a fun mini-celebration to thank them for their support.
Due to COVID-19, United Way MV may not have been able to visit all of this year’s chosen honoree companies in person, but that did not stop them from using this annual day to say thank you in other ways!
“Each year we choose a theme, partner with a local small business, and share a small token of our appreciation with those who support United Way of the Mohawk Valley,” said Carli Sterling, Senior Development Manager with United Way MV. “This year, thanks to three local pizzerias, we were able to say thank you with a coupon for a pizza special!”
Sinatra’s Pizza in Rome, Jonny’s Pizza in Utica, and Sorrento Pizzeria in Ilion, each donated a coupon deal to United Way MV to be able to share with its supporters and show appreciation for the “dough-nations” from local individuals and organizations help United Way MV make a difference in thousands of lives, through dozens of program and initiatives each year.
“Much of our work relies on the support of our donors and volunteers,” said Erin Gutierrez Matt, United Way MV CEO. “That is what today is about, thanking those who help United Way of the Mohawk Valley achieve our mission every day.”
United Way recognized 11 companies for their outstanding support this year, including Utica National Insurance Group, Northland Communications, Pratt & Whitney HMI Metal Powder, Assured Information Security, Vicks, Camden Teachers Association, Dermody, Burke & Brown, Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, Inc., M&T Bank, AmeriCU, and Briggs, Bucciero & Smith Agency.
Each of the chosen companies celebrated an increase in dollars raised from the previous year. To meet their increase in giving, these companies coordinated virtual presentation options, offered a matching corporate contribution, gave a sponsorship, or 100% of their employees donated. One company, Utica National Insurance Group, increased their overall local giving to United Way MV by 44% or $87,549 for a total donation of $285,251.
“Our company established the important tradition of supporting the good work of the United Way decades ago,” said Utica National Chairman of the Board and CEO Rich Creedon. “Whether it’s financially or through a donation of time, our team members continue that tradition through their generosity – helping to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of children, adults, and families in the communities where we live and work.”
More than 60 members of United Way staff, Board of Directors, and committees, and community volunteers connected with hundreds of supporters with phone calls, emails, and postcards. Each postcard and email include a special coupon discount to three partnering pizzerias.
While today, United Way of the Mohawk Valley may be yelling thank you from the rooftops, they appreciate the generosity and support of this community every day.
